Tell us about your sports and fitness background.
Participated on the swim team and soccer teams through high school. College, not much other than some lifting at the gym and playing on intramural volleyball/softball teams. Play golf from time to time. Was actively involved with the US Army from ’97-’09 which required much physical and mental attributes that kept me in pretty good form.
How did you first get exposed to CrossFit? Take us back to your first WOD… what was it, and how did it feel?
Needed a change in my lifestyle – needed the missing piece to feel better and Crossfit was the answer. Maggie actually was the one to get us into trying CF out and we loved our first class. So here we are today 🙂
What sort of changes have you seen in your body, health and fitness since starting CF? (before / after)
Starting out I did not have a regular fitness workout routine. With my current Crossfit schedule I attend 1-2 times a week which definitely has helped push my confidence in trying new things but has also taught me to stick with it. I have learned many new movements and workouts as well as nutritional habits through the Zone diet workshop. Today I feel great, much more motivated to workout and have gained more muscle strength over the last year. It’s always fun to push and achieve those new PRs.
What sort of changes in your life have you experienced out of taking on something like CrossFit that were totally unexpected?
Feel better, but using and developing strengths and muscles (shoulders and back) previously that were not there have been impressive. Definitely have more strength and support in my core and back since hurting my back 5 years ago. I am sure there will be more as I continue to train and attend CF.
Please share with us any favorite CrossFit / CFC moments.
So many moments but I enjoy coming to class everyday that I can. The teamwork and friendships made have been great. The people that surround you during class make it very motivational and encouraging to rip through a workout where if it wasn’t for them it would make workouts and activities that much more difficult to complete.
Any advice for people just getting started?
Just have fun and stick with it. Every workout is as intense as you make it. Over time you will see results both mentally and physically.
What are your hobbies, interests and/or talents outside of CrossFit?
Spending time with Maggie and our fur babies, family, friends. Grilling, enjoying new restaurants, concerts, movies, golf with my dad and brothers, Sports Enthusiast – GO PACK!
