Favorite WOD: Anything with jump roping, sit ups, or any kind of clean

Least Favorite WOD: Anything with running or pull ups

Tell us about your sports & fitness background:
I played a little bit of basketball in middle school and high school, but that is it as far as sports go. My husband is a personal trainer and PE teacher, and we have been together for 14 years. Since I met him, my fitness level has increased as well as my healthy eating, and crossfit just expands that for me.

How did you first get exposed to CrossFit? Take us back to your first WOD… what was it, and how did it feel?

I had a friend that did it and she invited me to one of the ‘Bring a Friend’ days….it was Fight Gone Bad. I literally walked in, did the workout, left, and could barely get up the stairs when I got home, and felt like I was going to die the next three days but I fell in love with it!

What sort of changes have you seen in your body, health and fitness since starting CF? (before / after)

I am soo much stronger in both mind and body…I am lifting and doing things that I never thought I would ever do in my lifetime. Crossfit has increased my confidence with almost every part of my life.

What sort of changes in your life have you experienced out of taking on something like CrossFit that were totally unexpected?

I have always hated hated hated working out. I never enjoyed anything that had to do with going to the gym or classes. I feel like crossfit doesn’t allow me to judge myself because there is no time to do so in the workouts! Because of this, I enjoy coming to class every time.

Please share with us any favorite CrossFit / CFC moments.

I like the people that I work out with, I have my morning and evening ‘crew’. I like the fact that we can get together as a group and go do different things that I have never done before, like rock climbing. The people are what makes me come back every time.

Any advice for people just getting started?

Take it easy and don’t get discouraged. Scale scale scale.

What are your hobbies, interests and/or talents outside of CrossFit?

No real hobbies or talents. I enjoy reading when I am able to.

How did you first get exposed to CrossFit? Take us back to your first WOD… what was it, and how did it feel?

I was tired of the same gym routine so I thought I’d give CrossFit a try and have loved it since.

What sort of changes have you seen in your body, health and fitness since starting CF? (before / after)

I’m leaner, stronger, and more flexible.

What sort of changes in your life have you experienced out of taking on something like CrossFit that were totally unexpected?

I actually WANT to eat healthier. Not just to because I tell myself to but because that’s what my body craves.

Please share with us any favorite CrossFit / CFC moments.

No specific moment but I love coming into a workout knowing it’s going to kick my butt and being able to joke about it with everyone else there who are about to do the same WOD.

Any advice for people just getting started?

Don’t be afraid or embarrassed if you can’t do a certain skill. You’ll get there eventually, but only if you work at it.

What are your hobbies, interests and/or talents outside of CrossFit?

I play my guitar, enjoy movies, and after enough drinks I’m a great dancer!

Favorite WOD: Anything with Weights!

Least Favorite WOD: Anything with Pull ups!

Tell us about your sports & fitness background: Prior to consulting, I was participating in 2-3 indoor/outdoor Volleyball leagues a season.

How did you first get exposed to CrossFit? Take us back to your first WOD… what was it, and how did it feel?

Lol, Its all a blur! I remember really being out of breath and really questioning what I was doing. Despite being out of shape and bringing in horrible times Im really happy I stuck with it because results quickly followed.

What sort of changes have you seen in your body, health and fitness since starting CF? (before / after): Since starting crossfit, I’ve noticed huge changes in my body, from head to toe! Biggest changes have been my stomach and face.

What sort of changes in your life have you experienced out of taking on something like CrossFit that were totally unexpected?

I’m more active, no longer a couch potato. Instead of staying in bed I wake up and go to Crossfit!

Please share with us any favorite CrossFit / CFC moments. When I enrolled, I thought it was going to be like any other gym; you go in, work out and leave. With Crossfit I realized it wasn’t like that at all. Through time you start seeing familiar faces and developing friendships.

Any advice for people just getting started? It’s unlike any gym experience you’ve encountered. You will quickly realize how out of shape you really are. I joined because I was the heaviest I’ve ever been and needed a change. Stick with it, push yourself and have fun!

What are your hobbies, interests and/or talents outside of CrossFit? There’s life outside of Crossfit? I enjoy working with my hands, construction work around the house and working on old cars.

When did you first start CrossFitting?

I have been inconsistently CrossFitting for 3 – 4 years.

When did you first start training at CFC?

From Day 1

Favorite WOD

I live to tabata.

Least Favorite WOD

I cannot stand the chippers.

Tell us about your sports & fitness background.

I was a gym underachiever throughout high school, the ever brooding punk-rocker that thought I was too cool to participate in organized sports. Later in life I caught adult onset athleticism when I began running 5Ks and working out regularly. Too bad I hate to run.

How did you first get exposed to CrossFit? Take us back to your first WOD… what was it, and how did it feel?

Well, my husband started doing these crazy workouts in our bedroom and then our garage after I kicked him out of our bedroom. I decided to give it a try and then I couldn’t walk up or down the stairs for like a week and vow to never step foot in the garage again. Then about every 2-3 months I’d give it another try, but I was definitely not hooked in the beginning. I don’t remember the exact movements of my first WOD.

What sort of changes have you seen in your body, health and fitness since starting CF? (before / after)

I’m definitely a lot stronger both physically and mentally. I am more in tune with my capabilities than I ever have been and I’m not afraid to give new movements a try, but I’m also not afraid to say – “nope, that’s not for me.” I feel lighter, happier and more energetic.

What sort of changes in your life have you experienced out of taking on something like CrossFit that were totally unexpected?

Well, CrossFit changed my life in big, meaningful ways. Really, it has found it’s way in all aspects of my life.

Please share with us any favorite CrossFit / CFC moments.

I love when I complete that last rep of any WOD and have that feeling of accomplishment.

Any advice for people just getting started?

Please don’t think that CrossFit is something that you can’t do – it is totally doable for anyone, any age, any skill level.

What are your hobbies, interests and/or talents outside of CrossFit?

I love to cook, read and spend time with my wonderful husband and awesome daughter, they are my life.

Favorite WOD: No favorites yet, just trying to figure things out still.

Least Favorite WOD: Maybe cleans because it’s a motion I’m not used to yet..

Tell us about your sports & fitness background.

I played soccer my entire life. I played very competitively on a travel and recreational league at the same time throughout the year until I got into high school. I then played at a Varsity level until junior year. I also played volleyball in high school. Since high school I try working out regularly by running and weightlifting but I needed more guidance and accountability.

How did you first get exposed to CrossFit? Take us back to your first WOD… what was it, and how did it feel?

In chiropractic school CrossFit was very popular but it was just students running the club. My friend Nikki showed me CrossFit Caliber and the rest is history. My first WOD at CrossFit Caliber was during the introductory class. I remember being very tired and nauseous from burpees.

What sort of changes have you seen in your body, health and fitness since starting CF? (before / after)

I notice I’m able to squat more without being as sore, my body recovers faster than before and I feel more energy throughout my day.

What sort of changes in your life have you experienced out of taking on something like CrossFit that were totally unexpected?

I used to hate doing things after I get out of work and would rather go home and sleep, not anymore. I actually get excited to go to class now and feel more energy after so I can get things I need done.

Any advice for people just getting started?

Since I consider myself still getting started I think the best thing I can say is do what you can, let the other people in class push you, but don’t compare yourself with what they are doing.

What are your hobbies, interests and/or talents outside of CrossFit?

I like doing things around my house, whether it’s antiquing, playing with my dogs, or being outside.

Favorite WOD

I don’t have one yet but I like kettle bell swings.

Least Favorite WOD

ANYTHING with double unders and burpees 😝

Tell us about your sports & fitness background.

I’ve always considered myself fairly athletic. I ran track, played basketball (I sucked) and was a cheerleader in high school. Went through a period when I was totally into step aerobics (I was the queen of step aerobics 😄…I would go to Friday night step marathons…just nutz). Around 2005 I started distance running and ran my first 5K and have been running ever since. I did my first sprint triathlon last year and will run my first 1/2 marathon in July and another in August. My goal is to do at least one half marathon every year in a different city/state. This year it’s Vancouver! Before starting CrossFit I did a boxing class for a year and before that I did P90X, twice. I enjoy high intensity sports and fitness. I like challenging myself and feeling fit. If I’m not challenged or see results I will move on to something else. That’s why I really enjoy CrossFit because there are so many workouts I can’t do well and I’m determined to learn them. I see myself doing this for a while.

How did you first get exposed to CrossFit? Take us back to your first WOD… what was it, and how did it feel?

My dentist was telling me about it and so I started to do some research. I went to a few intro classes in the city figured I liked it enough and then saw the Groupon for CFC, realized it was close enough to my house (thank goodness) and now I’m 6 months in. I don’t remember my first WOD but I know I was nervous and started to sweat when I realized it may involve pull-ups😳. But I remember getting through it and told myself I can really get into this.

What sort of changes have you seen in your body, health and fitness since starting CF? (before / after)

I’m stronger than I thought I was (I told my friends I can deadlift 185lbs…they think I’m a beast..lol😜). I feel off and sluggish when I can’t get to class. After starting CrossFit I’ve become more aware of my diet but I need and want to do better in this area. That in itself is a challenge for me.

What sort of changes in your life have you experienced out of taking on something like CrossFit that were totally unexpected?

I find myself encouraging others to get involved in sort of fitness…preferably CrossFit.

Please share with us any favorite CrossFit / CFC moments.

My fav crossfit moments are when I do something new that I haven’t done before or doing something better than I did it the first time. I’m usually very pleased with myself and get that “you go girl” feeling. I will have to say my fav CFC moment is probably after my first 10 or so times coming to CFC I started learning people’s name and people knew my name and the conversations flowed…I felt like I was a part of the team. The camaraderie of the athletes is so encouraging.

Any advice for people just getting started?

It’s life changing so stick with it, you’ll be happy you did.

What are your hobbies, interests and/or talents outside of CrossFit?

I wouldn’t say I have hobbies or talents but I do enjoy a home improvement project every now and then. I enjoy concerts, movies, reading a good book, playing with my doggie and hanging with my girls!

MY FRIEND KARA LAMBERT WAS ALWAYS TALKING ABOUT THIS CROSSFIT THING, ONE DAY I SAW A GROUPON FOR CALIBER AND I ASKED HER IF SHE WOULD COME WITH ME TO MY FIRST CLASS. SHE DID AND THE REST IS HISTORY. I DON’T REMEMBER THE NAME OF THE WOD BUT I REMEMBER DOING WALLBALLS AND THINKING THIS IS NONSENSE, AND AS SOON AS I GOT IN MY CAR TO LEAVE I COULDN’T WAIT TO COME BACK…..IT CLICKED!!!!

What sort of changes have you seen in your body, health and fitness since starting CF? (before / after)
I’VE SEEN SO MANY CHANGES, NOT ONLY IN HOW MY BODY LOOKS BUT WHAT I CAN DO. WHEN I STARTED CROSSFIT I WAS 168 POUNDS TODAY I’M 133 POUNDS. I’VE RUN MANY 5KS, AN 8K AND A 10K. THE HEALTH AND FITNESS THAT CALIBER HAS GIVEN ME HAS HELPED ME HAVE A SPEEDY AND HEALTHY RECOVERY AFTER DONATING A KIDNEY TO MY HUSBAND.

Favorite WOD – Anything involving body weight movements and endurance.

Least Favorite WOD – There isn’t anything in particular I don’t like….but wall climbs and walking lunges are on the list of things I don’t love!

Tell us about your sports & fitness background. – I played softball as a kid and danced in high school but didn’t really get into the gym/classes/yoga thing until my mid 20s. Once I met my husband Tim, that’s when I started doing races. (5k’s, 10k’s, half marathon, stair climbs, and just completed my first triathlon!) Crossfit seemed like the next obvious thing to tackle and I was hooked immediately.

How did you first get exposed to CrossFit? Take us back to your first WOD… what was it, and how did it feel? – My friend and trainer started doing crossfit and TRX in California and after doing a few personal training work outs incorporating crossfit movements with him and having a friend in Illinois start crossfitting, I saw a Groupon for the box I used to go to and thought, why not try it? I remember that first WOD having tons of ab mat sit ups and thinking I was going to never finish while Tim was counting down each sit up to cheer me on…. which he still does today! 🙂

What sort of changes have you seen in your body, health and fitness since starting CF? (before / after) – I am definitely stronger than I’ve ever been before. My endurance has gotten much better. Your over all life style changes for the better when you become part of a fitness community.

What sort of changes in your life have you experienced out of taking on something like CrossFit that were totally unexpected? – Proving to yourself that you can push yourself to do and try things you’d never thought you’d be able to do before…for me its more of a physical thing…I wouldn’t have ever thought about doing a triathlon if I hadn’t started crossfit!

Please share with us any favorite CrossFit / CFC moments. – Obviously the hilarious night out with everyone at Buffalo Wild Wings! Midnight Murph was a blast too!

Any advice for people just getting started? – Its not as scary as you think it is…everything is scalable…everyone will cheer you along. You’ll be amazed at what you really can do and everyday you’ll get stronger and faster. Don’t let the crossfit stereotypes discourage you from trying a class!

What are your hobbies, interests and/or talents outside of CrossFit? – Everyone knows I’m a HUGE hockey fan (go Kings go!…. and Hawks… just not when they play eachother 😉 ) Also, I’ve been a hair stylist for 13 years so the beauty industry is very important to me.

Tell us about your sports & fitness background:
I have played soccer since I was in first grade. I played four years of Division I soccer at EIU, where we made 3 NCAA tournament appearances. I still continue to play a few times a week. Growing up I also played basketball, volleyball, and ran track.

How did you first get exposed to CrossFit? Take us back to your first WOD… what was it, and how did it feel?
I bought a Groupon for 10 classes at CFC. My first class was a Free Intro Class on a Saturday and the WOD was 3 rounds for reps: Row (cal) 1 min, Ball Slams 1 min, Dead Hang (secs) 1 min, 25 ft. Farmer Carry 1 min, Rest 1 min. I remember feeling excited and a little nervous all at once. After completing it I was hooked.

What sort of changes have you seen in your body, health and fitness since starting CF? (before / after)
I sleep better and my overall muscle tone and strength has improved.

What sort of changes in your life have you experienced out of taking on something like CrossFit that were totally unexpected?
I never thought I would consistently get up at 5am to get in a pre-work workout. I never realized how great it would be to start my day at CFC. I never leave there in a bad mood and I love how it wakes me up for the day.

Please share with us any favorite CrossFit / CFC moments:
I have three favorite moments at CFC:
1. Doing “Murph” on Memorial Day. The meaning behind the workout and Memorial Day made me feel proud to be a part of it. Completing it without using a band for pull-ups was a huge accomplishment for me.

2. Doing “Barbara” for Elba. It was great to see the people of CFC come together to support her and her family.

3. Having my roomie, Dewey, start coming with me to CFC. It has been great watching him improve and grow.

Any advice for people just getting started?
I think it is important to remember it is about your own personal improvement. Just because the person next to you just got their kipping pull-ups and you just got changed from the green to blue band doesn’t mean your accomplishment is any less awesome. You will get there if you keep working at it!

What are your hobbies, interests and/or talents outside of CrossFit?
I love art, going on bike rides, and traveling.
