When did you first start training at CFC?- February 2016
Favorite WOD- Anything with lifting weights on a barbell
Least Favorite WOD- anything with Wall balls
Tell us about your sports & fitness background.- Growing up, I was an active kid. I was a Taekwondo black belt by age thirteen but didn’t take any other sport after that except for some cricket till high school.
How did you first get exposed to CrossFit? Take us back to your first WOD… what was it, and how did it feel?- I came to United States for Master’s in 2011 and gained 20lbs in my first three months. The weight kind of kept piling over the years, and I lost a major chunk of it in 2013, but it all crept back by Feb 2016. I had started to lift a little in this time and loved it, I knew I need to push myself a lot more to see results, and I googled for nearest Crossfit box, and came for a introduction class the same day. I don’t remember much, except that there were a lot of sit-ups. I went home and felt challenged but nothing more. But come next day and after that, I was so sore, I had trouble walking straight, that’s when I knew I wanted to come back for more.
What sort of changes have you seen in your body, health and fitness since starting CF? (before / after)- I think, my body is lot more stronger than before. My stamina has improved. I am still nervous about the next WOD but I love this feeling the most. My breathing has improved during HIIT sessions. I can run better(I was barely able to run 200m before CFC). I started running outside and saw my performance improve in classes. I did my first obstacle race and a 5k last year. I never wanted to do any of these, but now it’s a different story.
What sort of changes in your life have you experienced out of taking on something like CrossFit that were totally unexpected?
I think I can do whatever I set my mind to. CFC made me confident in life. It made me believe in myself and my capabilities. I am still a work in progress but I am happier, stronger and confident. I never ever thought I could run, in fact I hated running. But now, I love exploring trails and pushing myself.
Please share with us any favorite CrossFit / CFC moments.- My favorite moments are when the entire crew supports me, no matter what they won’t let me quit. I love everytime I surprise myself and go home with a picture from the white board. What’s there not to love at CFC.
Any advice for people just getting started?
Just keep going. Every day is a new challenge in life. CFC will make you overcome those fears if you keep pushing for more, one rep at a time. The amazing people at CFC would be with you, every step of the way. Seek help, and you would be surprised at how many people are willing to be there for you.
Tell us something interesting about yourself totally unrelated to CrossFit.
I am a huge foodie and love craft beers. My true calling in life, I think is to save the environment, do whatever I can to raise awareness and do my bit. Might sound cliched, but this is what I want to do for the rest of my life(and live on a farm with a giant vegetable garden with five dogs)
